N.Y. Charm School Grooms Lady Clients
— With 10% Course
Jan. 21, 1964
A charm school called Femina in the Waldorf-Astoria’s Jacy de Paris Beauty Salon
introduced a course designed “to groom lady clients for their trips abroad.” New
York-area travel agents booking clients for the six-week, $75 course would receive
10% commission. An introductory course, using two Sita World Travel consultants,
included figure control [corset!], posture, make-up, hair styling, voice and diction,
social and business etiquette and wardrobe. Sita’s eastern regional manager [a man,
of course] observed that the results were “stunning,” adding that “we went to an
Air-India trade function that evening and the girls really attracted the fellows.”
