percent said they are accredited with
CLIA, and 38% said they are accredited with CLIA through a host agency.
Accreditation with IATAN through a
host agency has risen in recent years,
with 40% reporting they are accredited now vs. 36% two years ago. Nearly
one-quarter of respondents said they
are Vacation.com members.

According to the survey, 30% of
respondents said that selling travel is
their only source of income, down 20
points from 2003.
“This is a major change,” the survey states, “that may be consistent
with the growing number of inde-
pendent agents with less
than four years’ experience.
These newer agents often
use a part-time, home-based business model.”
Still, the average number
of hours per week spent
selling travel in 2007 is
34, which is virtually unchanged from the previous
Nearly half of respondents, 44%, said that their
annual revenue volume is
less than $50,000.
The percentage of independent agents with
$250,000 or higher total annual revenue volume falls
below 12%, with just 2%
reporting annual revenue
volume between $1 million
and $1.9 million.
