International Pow Wow’s new logo and
identity is designed to create a brand reflecting
the global importance of the U.S. travel
industry’s premier international marketplace.
“For several years, host cities have designed
logos, and while that brought in a nice, local
element, the event lacked a consistent, easily
identified brand,” said Malcolm Smith, general
manager of International Pow Wow, and vice
president of business development for U.S.
Travel Association.
“We wanted something modern and
reflective of Pow Wow as an event that is
global in nature. The new brand and logo pulls
it all together,” said Smith.
Host cities will use the logos, adding their city
and event dates, starting with 2013 Pow Wow
in Las Vegas. Future Pow Wow host cities are
set through 2016, with Chicago on tap for 2014,
Orlando in 2015 and Miami in 2016. By the end
of this summer host cities could be lined up
through 2020.
“We have lots interest from potential host
cities — including many that have never hosted
Pow Wow before — which speaks to the
relevance that Pow Wow has in the international
marketplace. The tremendous amount of buzz
and interest brought through the four-year
commitment with our branding partner, Brand
USA, has galvanized the industry and made
cities very excited about hosting Pow Wow.”
Future Host
Cities Gear Up
for Pow Wow
BY MARK CHESNUT
This year’s International Pow Wow may
have just ended, but the event’s future host
cities are already in full swing with planning
and preparation. Next year, Pow Wow will
be held in Las Vegas, which last hosted in
2008. Delegates are sure to see lots of new
developments when they go back next year.
“We didn’t stand still,” said Rossi
Ralenkotter, president and CEO of the Las
Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.
“We kept reinventing ourselves.”
In 2014, the excitement transfers to
Chicago, where Mayor Rahm Emanuel
recently launched a new tourism
organization, Choose Chicago, which aims to
attract 50 million visitors per year by 2020.
With plans to open Chicago tourism offices
in Brazil, Germany and Japan, the so-called
“Windy City” will surely be on the mind of an
increasing number of international travelers.
