Jerusalem
CITY OF HISTORY:
Most travelers will want to head straight to the Old
City, where they can walk along the still active streets
of Jerusalem’s historic Muslim, Jewish and Christian
quarters, place their hands upon the Western Wall
or visit the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Outside
of the historic center, a number of well-curated
museums narrate unique aspects of Israel heritage,
including the Israel Museum and the powerful Yad
Vashem Holocaust History Museum.
OTHER ATTRACTIONS:
Beyond its historical
attractions, Jerusalem
offers a number of
unexpected delights to
travelers. A trip to the
Carmel market offers
a taste of all the
wonders of Israeli
agriculture. Jerusalem’s
German Colony
neighborhood teems
with visitors and locals
who flock to its peaceful
cafés and shops.
WHERE TO STAY
Jerusalem is the upscale traveler’s
paradise, offering some of the most
high-end accommodations in the
country. The Inbal Hotel offers one of
the best experiences in the city with
its grand architecture and impeccable
location. At the American Colony
Hotel travelers indulge in classical
Ottoman design while enjoying the
modern luxury. Since 1931, the
King David Hotel has played host to
foreign dignitaries, celebrities and well-
heeled travelers. The hotly anticipated
Waldorf-Astoria Jerusalem is slated to
open in August 2013, and will feature
a lavish presidential suite with a grand
piano, 10-seat in-room dining service
and a private Jacuzzi. In addition,
Israel’s “zimmerim” are a unique bed
and breakfast experience.
GETTING THERE
Jerusalem is in the center of the
country, less than an hour’s drive from
the Ben Gurion International Airport
and Tel Aviv. Please be advised that
many businesses in Jerusalem are closed
from sundown on Friday to sundown
on Saturday in observance of the
Sabbath.
