The Kerry Centre Hotel, Beijing is linked via sky bridge to the China World Tower, Beijing’s tallest building.
there’s plenty to see.
If clients are looking for shopping, send them to Tian Zi Fang,
Shanghai’s art deco district, where
they’ll find shops offering finer-than-the-average Chinese wares.
There, they can grab a bowl (yes,
a bowl) of coffee at the Kommune
Cafe or explore Unique Hill Gallery, a gem of a Chinese antique
store located toward the rear of
the district, offering first-edition
Mao-era propaganda posters and
a 20th century Chinese history
lesson all at once.
If clients are looking for a more
traditional experience, sample the
famous green tea at Hu Xin Ting,
located near Yu Garden.
Having sampled a large cross-section of Shanghai, I boarded a
high-speed bullet train for the
five-hour ride to Beijing.
KERRY
Kerry blossoms in Beijing
If the Kerry Hotel Pudong,
Shanghai presented the Kerry
brand in its fullest form, the Ker-
ry Centre Beijing offers a glimpse
into the enormity of thought and
hard work that Shangri-La puts
into its new ventures.
check out the property, and there’s
a lot more to it than the marble
and onyx floors that first meet the
eye. The Kerry Centre, Beijing offers indoor tennis and basketball
courts, a 24-hour fitness center,
an Olympic-size swimming pool
and more than 20,000 square feet
of meetings space.
While it is currently in an awkward state of transition — and color palettes — I did witness the end
goal Shangri-La/Kerry is shooting
for: plush carpets, crystal chandeliers and art deco touches galore.
The next day, I headed to Ti-
ananmen Square before wander-
ing over to the directly adjacent
Forbidden City, two must-sees for
anyone seeing Beijing for the first
time. A note on this: It will be
crowded no matter when guests
visit. This is China’s premier his-
torical attraction, and if clients
want to brave the madding, ec-
static crowd and elbow their way
to the front to get a picture of the
emperor’s chambers, they’ll do so
at their own peril. It packs all the
punch you would imagine.
