Underwater attractions, more on newly kid-friendly Bermuda
By Felicity Long
Our Boston-to-Bermuda cruise aboard
Norwegian Cruise Line’s newly renovated
Norwegian Dawn this summer was packed
with kids, our own included. But the is-
land’s reputation as a family-friendly des-
tination is a fairly recent one.
Enjoy the Experiences
Riviera Maya offers visitors an elaborate and varied selection of
sports and recreational activities tailored to the tastes and desires of
each visitor. From contemplating the vast and diverse Maya culture,
which is present in its architecture and paintings on view in the many
archaeological sites throughout the region, to the enjoyment of
different water sports such as diving and fishing, and tennis or golf.

Bermuda’s family-friendly attractions include Snorkel
Park, near the island’s cruise port at King’s Wharf.
we have families, too, and since this island is
a great place to raise a family, it should also
be a great place for visitors to bring a family.”
Underwater world of attractions
He singled out the Bermuda Underwater
Exploration Institute as an especially appealing attraction for families, complete with a
shark cage exhibit and the Dive, which takes
guests on a virtual excursion underwater to
face such sea creatures as a giant squid.
On our cruise, we poked around the
shops at the Royal Naval Dockyard; lined up
for the ferry to Hamilton and to the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum & Zoo; and scrambled to snag a spot on the sandy beach at
Snorkel Park near the cruise port at King’s
Wharf. We also chose a half-day catamaran
snorkel excursion to a nearby reef.
As to accommodations, those not cruising will find a host of properties with family packages and even children’s programs.

While most offerings target the summer
months, some properties are looking to
capitalize on Bermuda’s year-round temperate climate with special deals.
Rosewood Tucker’s Point, for example,
is offering families 50% off a second room

15. The property features Bermuda’s longest
private pink-sand beach as well as a junior
golf program for kids 4 and older, junior
tennis for kids age 5 and up and a Rose Buds
program for the hotel’s youngest guests.
The Bermuda Department of Tourism is
offering a Compliments of Bermuda promotion that adds a free night at participating hotels with a minimum three-night stay
for the coming low season. The promotion
can be booked through March 15, for stays
from Nov. 1 through March 31. For more
